In Pakistan, the two honeys people compare most are Sidr (Beri) honey and Acacia (Palosa / Phulai) honey. Both come from named trees, but they look, taste and behave differently. This guide compares them side by side.
| Feature | Sidr (Beri) | Acacia (Palosa / Phulai) |
|---|---|---|
| Source tree | Sidr / Beri (Ziziphus) | Acacia (Phulai / Palosa) |
| Colour | Dark amber to deep brown | Light golden |
| Flavour | Bold, rich, slightly tangy | Mild, delicate, lightly floral |
| Texture | Thick, heavy, slow to pour | Lighter, more fluid |
| Crystallization | Crystallizes fairly readily | Crystallizes very slowly |
| Best for | Strong flavour lovers, traditional use | Tea, warm drinks, mild daily honey |
Sidr honey is the stronger of the two: deep, warming and a little tangy, with a lingering finish. Acacia honey is delicate and sweet with a light floral note and almost no aftertaste. If you were to taste both blind, Sidr is unmistakably bold while acacia is noticeably gentle.
Raw Sidr can be nearly brown; raw acacia stays light golden. Neither will be glass-clear if truly raw — cloudiness and tiny bubbles are normal signs of unprocessed honey, as we explain in How to Identify Pure Honey.
Sidr honey crystallizes faster because it has a higher glucose-to-fructose ratio. Acacia is famous for staying liquid much longer (fructose stays liquid). Neither change means the honey is spoiled.
Sidr honey is generally priced premium because it is single-origin and in high demand, as detailed in Sidr Honey Price in Pakistan. Acacia honey is typically more affordable per kg. Compare wider price ranges in Honey Price in Pakistan 2026.
Yes. In Pakistan, acacia tree honey is called Palosa (or Phulai) honey. It is the same honey, named after the local tree.
Sidr (Beri) honey is much stronger in flavour and darker in colour. Acacia is mild and light.
It crystallizes very slowly thanks to its high fructose content, but it can still do so over a long time, especially in cold storage.
Acacia (Palosa) dissolves gently and does not overpower a warm drink, so it is usually the favourite for tea. Sidr stands up well in strong teas too — it is a matter of taste.
Sidr honey is typically more expensive because it is single-origin, rarer and in stronger demand. Acacia is usually the better budget option among named honeys.
